Legacies of Aversion ‘Therapy’

This project, funded through a Society for the Social History of Medicine/Wellcome Trust Network grant, reflects on the history of aversion ‘therapy’ practices and LGBTQ+ communities in Britain; the legacies of these practices; and the contemporary reparative work of organisations and institutions in relation to past harms.
Looking at LGBTQ+ aversion therapy as a historic form of “conversion therapy”, we invite
reflections from scholars, survivors, policy makers, activists, former practitioners, and
scholars on how this history can inform future work.
